Build2Learn Edition #38
19 September 2026. Nice sunny Saturday. Build2Learn number thirty-eight.
This time we were hosted by Ideas2IT — and yes, the 2 is a number, not a typo. Around 35 to 40 folks turned up, a healthy mix of professionals and students, though if I’m being honest the students had the numbers this time. Which I love. Nothing keeps a room awake like a bunch of people who haven’t yet learnt to be scared of shipping.
The usual start (and two very useful mentors)
We kicked off the way we always do: introductions, then idea pitches. Quite a few cool ones — more on those in a bit.
We also had two mentors floating around the room all day, which made a real difference. Magesh from Chennai Geeks, and Veera, one of the co-founders of Ideas2IT, spent the day poking holes in ideas, unblocking teams and generally being the grown-ups in the room. Thank you both.
Something new: prizes
Here’s the twist this edition. Instead of my usual “let me tell you about everything that got built” post, we actually picked three projects and handed each of them a small hamper. So this recap is just the top three — the rest of you, I saw your demos, they were great, and you know who you are.
Right. In order.
🥇 First place: Tamil live captions for educational content
Team: Devi Prasad, Neruban, Janani, Jeshwar and Vivek
The pitch was simple and it landed hard. There is a ridiculous amount of world-class educational video out there, and almost all of it is in English. If you’re a Tamil-medium student, you’re starting the race a few metres behind everyone else, for no fault of yours.
So the team built live Tamil captioning — subtitles that follow the video as it plays — so that a student can sit down with the same lecture everyone else is watching and actually learn from it, not just decode it.
They had the clearest social impact in the room, they had a working demo, and they handled every question thrown at them without flinching. Easy first.
🥈 Second place: Sentinel X
Team: Jaswanth, Vellaiyan, Rithikanth and Prabakaran (Ideas2IT)
Ever looked at a wall of AWS CloudWatch logs after an incident and thought, okay but what actually happened here? That’s the problem Sentinel X goes after.
It pulls in the live logs, figures out the attack that happened, and then writes the story of that attack — where it came from, how it moved, what it touched — so the humans looking at it get a full picture instead of a haystack.
The way I’d describe it: Jira user stories, but for an attack on your app. Someone broke in? Here’s the epic, here are the tickets. Go fix.
🥉 Third place: Zero Accountant
Team: Mani and Muralidharan
Mani is a repeat offender, in the best way. He started this app at a Build2Learn last month and came back to keep building — which, if you’ve been following along, is exactly the kind of thing this community exists for.
Zero Accountant is a document-first money workspace. Snap a picture of a bill, upload it, and the app reads it and files it away. This time round he added two things:
- Email scanning — it picks up bills landing in your inbox and categorises them automatically inside the app.
- Family support — everyone’s spending, splits and settlements under one roof, with monthly reports on top.
Their tagline says it better than I can: “Turn bills into clean records and settlements.”
Really, really useful thing. Go poke around it.
Overtime, again
We were supposed to wrap at 2. We wrapped at 2:40. I’d like to say that was a scheduling failure, but honestly it just shows how much everyone wanted to be there — heads down, building, and then showing off what came out of three hours of it.
A huge thank you to the Ideas2IT team for having us in their office. Everything just flowed — no Wi-Fi drama, no logistics drama — and they also took some genuinely lovely photos of us on the day. You’ll see them scattered through this post.
